Well hey!
Alright so this is the beginning of my new blog...Now what...

So I would guess that if you are reading this then we know one another fairly well already, or maybe we dont and you just want to know more about this whole formal "missionary" thing. First off I am about 70% excited, 10% worried, 10% questioning the details and 15% ready to just get to it! I am currently in the middle of day 11 of training in New York. The whole thing has been one awesome time of having some questions answered, but with each session comes at least 2 more questions and a thought to ponder. I love this. It is really a beautiful thing to be able to look at the Global United Methodist Church at work and to just scratch the surface of what it looks like to care about, love, work with and learn from people of another religion, race, ethnicity, nationality and sex. I feel like I have a ton to type right here but a lot of it will have to wait as I don't have time to get into all these thoughts. Here is one though that has been a pretty large question lately:

What does it look like for me to be a white, middle class, male with inherent power and privlidge, to learn more and more about social justice issues and systems of inequality and oppression?

Social injustice is just such a huge term that I think it has become easy to throw around, but if we begin to define it maybe something will happen. Are there universal rights that people all across the world should be alotted (regardless of their cultural positions)?

Alright so I will not try and be so deep in the future, but there has just been a few things on my mind. Look forward to this: next time I want to give you some of the basics about me! just for fun! Peace out girl scouts!

(so this is a test to see if you really pay attention...the percentage at the top actually adds up to 105%, so if you were about to give me a hard time, please don't and if you didn'r notice, then you have failed the reading comprehension portion :-))
